The positions of the Greek table tennis players in the European evaluation table after Malmo

by

In the junior age groups, the ETTU’s August rating tables are autonomous and their importance at this time for the Greek side is that they include the results from the European Youth Table Tennis Championship that took place last July in Malmö.

The positions of all our internationals who took part in the top event changed and naturally there was an improvement in scores for the vast majority, regardless of whether a very high placing was not recorded.

The most remarkable thing is that six athletes, the teenagers Stathis Manolopoulos, Alexandros Madesis, the children Kostas Fakaros, Yiannis Kioseloglou, Konstantinos Alexoudis and the teenager Stella Tzaridou are in the top 90 of the European ranking.

Before mentioning the places in the European Ranking for all 15 children of the mission in the Scandinavian country, let us note that nothing substantial had emerged from the corresponding weekly ranking of the World Federation. The reason is that this year the ITTF calculated points from the European Youth Championship only for placings from the fourth round onwards, whereas the ETTU, which evaluates all its competitions, also takes into account results from the team event.

In the Men’s Under 19 age category, Stathis Manolopoulos moved up 11 places to number 58. He is the athlete who had the best singles run in Malmö, reaching positions 17-32 and getting 973.5 points.

Alexandros Madesis fell six places and is at number 70. Yiannis Koutras was 97 places higher and at number 130 (received 265.8 points), Alexandros Alexopoulos 103 places and number 168 (with plus 65.6 points) and Dimitris Sotiropoulos, who only competed in individual events, 594 places and number 238 (41.6 points). Manolopoulos and Madesis leave the category of teenagers at the end of the year.

In the Women’s Under 19, Stella Tzaridou made a significant improvement, advancing to the second round in Malmö. He moved up 42 places to number 87, amassing 634 points from the matches.

Zoi Kazakou is at number 196 with a jump of 443 places. He had an additional 41.6 points. The participation in the European Championship gave a corresponding boost to the ranking of the other two girls, since Angeliki Evmorfiadis appears at number 240 (399 places higher) and Evangelia Meramvelliotaki at 285 (354 places higher). Both girls will be in the junior category in the new season.

In the Under 15 boys, three of our athletes maintain their high positions without major changes. Kostas Fakaros, who went 33-64 in singles, moved up to number 40 from 43 last month. In Sweden he got 620 points.

Yiannis Kioseloglou and Konstantinos Alexoudis, who had entered the main board, are now at No. 45 and No. 54 respectively. The former fell seven places (he got 270.8 points) and the latter four (263.8 points).

Theofanis Mitkas lost 11 places and is at No. 131 with no indication of points in the European column. Kioseloglou and Alexoudis will also be in the children’s category in the new year.

The same applies to the 14-year-olds Christina Tzenidis and Anna-Fanouria Mitkas. In Under 15, in fact, they significantly improved their positions after the European Championship. Tsenidi went to number 187 with a rise of 117 places (plus 55.6 points) and Mitka to No. 189 with a rise of 203 places (43.6 points).

Finally, it should be noted that in the European Ranking of men, which is still labeled “experimental”, Panagiotis Gionis moved to 25th place from 36th in July. For ETTU, he appears to have scored 962 points from his run at the Paris Olympic tournament (3,412 total).
