Globo is experiencing a major impasse behind the scenes due to the final episode of “Renascer”, its current 9pm soap opera. Scheduled to air on September 6, the soap opera may have its final episodes shortened or even changed due to the Brazilian national team.
Conmebol (South American Football Confederation) has scheduled the match between the Brazilian men’s team and Ecuador, which will be held in Curitiba (PR), for the same day, the 6th, at 9:45 pm, the same day and time as the scheduled end of “Renascer”. The game is valid for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
According to the F5Globo has been trying to negotiate behind the scenes to change the day of the match. The case is not likely to be resolved easily and is likely to drag on until the last few days. The network does not want to have a short ending to “Renascer”, largely because of its commercial success.
Conmebol is adamant about changing the date and time. Globo, however, has not yet given up on the cause and continues to act behind the scenes. If it fails to achieve its objective, Globo is working with two possibilities.
The first is to re-edit the last chapter of “Renascer” with the time available for September 6th. The second is to change the day the finale is shown, either bringing it forward to the 5th, a Thursday, or postponing it to September 9th, a Monday.
It wouldn’t be the first time that a Globo soap opera didn’t end on a Friday. Recently, in 2016, the finale of “Totalmente Demais”, a hit in the 7pm slot, was shown on a Monday.
The original version in 1993 went through something similar. Due to a game in the final phase of the Brazilian Championship that year, which would be played on Friday (November 12, 1993), at 9:30 pm, between Internacional and São Paulo, Globo divided the end of “Renascer” into two parts.
Part of the end of José Inocêncio’s saga was shown on Friday, while the other part was aired on Saturday. There was also a rerun on Sunday, in full, after Fantástico.
Wanted by F5Globo only stated that it “has not yet decided on the programming for September 6th”.
