Tsitsipas: “I want to develop the relationship with my father and make it better outside the court”

by

A few days ago, Stefanos Tsitsipas made the decision to end his professional collaboration with his father, changing his coach.

The Greek tennis player explained to the Italian TV channel Super Tennis his choice, stressing that he made it because he felt that their professional collaboration had distanced them as father and son.

In fact, he emphasized the fact that he wishes to develop his relationship with Apostolos Tsitsipas outside the court.

In detail what he said:

“Most of the time I’m not sure about the changes I make in my team. It is something difficult and painful. When I make changes, I go by instinct and they are usually correct.

I felt that the last few years were difficult, I kept a lot of my feelings inside about some things and I couldn’t express myself earlier.

But the time has come to make this important change to my team. I really want to develop the relationship with my father and make it better off the court.

I felt that the pressure and expectations of the last few years on the tour had pushed us apart and this is natural, because I work professionally with my father. In any father-son relationship this can bring distance rather than bonding.

So far so good, I’m very happy to have him as my father while the captain of the Davis Cup team helps us in a coaching role in the coming weeks.

He is someone I know well and I hope he will bring out my best tennis and we will develop together.”
