Panathinaikos AKTOR had a terrible year last year by conquering Euroleague and championshipand now starts the new season with the aim of maintaining his “sceptres” in both competitions.
THE Sani Becirovicwho also played an important role in building the team from the position of GM, spoke to “Sport Klub” about both the last and the new season, pointing out that the “clover” aims to conquer everything.

“Last year we confirmed that we had selected the right group of players during the summer. We became a real family. This was seen in the playoffs with Maccabi. At that time, we were without our caretaker, Paris Dermanis, who had a heart attack and was in the hospital, and later, unfortunately, he died. This incident brought the team together even more.
Later, when we went to Berlin for the Final Four, there was an incident in the hotel where the fans of the opposing team (Fenerbahce) had an argument with coach Ataman. This fired us up even more. At the same time, we felt the enormous support of the people.
This is the base. Our fans are back. Bring back the passion and that sense of belonging. For me, this is the biggest success. It is a testament to the good staff that exists in the team. The fans understood that the players who wore the green jersey, did not do it only for the money and good statistics. I am proud that we have a team with higher goals.
Last year we made 11 transfers. A total renewal was made. Consolidation followed. This year we were looking for some ‘supplements’. We didn’t spoil the relationships and the chemistry. Lorenzo Brown, who thinks first of his teammates and then looks at the basket, is a real boost, both organizationally and offensively. Under the basket, Omer Yurtseven gives us value.
In Athens I had to learn this. You always have to look at what your opponent is doing. There have been instances in the past where a team would claim a player even if they didn’t want him. Olympiacos built an excellent team. Armani and Fenerbahce also made successful moves. Barcelona and Real are traditional powers. Monaco also did well. EuroLeague will be one click stronger.
Our goal is to conquer what is conquerable. I know that Panathinaikos will be the biggest target (s. for all teams). Athens is my home now. In my family he enjoys the climate, the people, the dynamics of life. If it’s two, he would stay for another ten years.”
