The Military Police of Minas Gerais identified and started a search for the suspect of being the author of the shot that caused the death of a Cruzeiro fan in a fight between fans on Sunday (6), in Belo Horizonte.
The confrontation took place before the match between Atlético-MG and Cruzeiro, for the Campeonato Mineiro, in Mineirão, with a 2-1 victory. Until early Monday afternoon (7), the suspect had not been located.
According to information from the Military Police, two men who were also involved in the confrontation were arrested. A motorcycle was seized.
“We spent the entire morning identifying the person responsible for the murder,” said Major Flávio Santiago, from the PM’s communications department.
The fight took place in the Boa Vista neighborhood, east of the capital of Minas Gerais, and involved about 50 people, according to the corporation. The dead fan was identified as Rodrigo Marlon Caetano Andrade, 25.
The victim was hit in the abdomen and was rescued in an UPA (Emergency Care Unit). She was then transferred to the João XXIII Emergency Hospital. He underwent surgery but did not survive his injuries.
A person who was passing by on a motorcycle, without involvement in the confrontation, was also shot in the shoulder. She was sent for medical attention and then released.
Videos posted on social media show dozens of people running, throwing stones, pieces of wood and even a chair. In the background, fireworks and possibly gunshots are heard.
One of the footage captures conversation between people carrying a wounded person. One screams: “Get the car, the guy will die”.
Just before the ball rolled, the boards of Atlético-MG and Cruzeiro posed together on social media to ask for peace, civility and respect.
Former striker Ronaldo Nazário, majority shareholder of Cruzeiro, was one of those present at the meeting. “Our rivalry has to be restricted to the four lines”, declared the Phenomenon.
“May this day symbolize the beginning of a new era in Brazilian football,” added Rafael Menin, vice-president of the Atletico Deliberative Council.
According to information from the Military Police, the confrontation between the two fans was probably marked by social networks or chat apps. “They are the most commonly used means,” said PM spokeswoman Major Layla Brunella.
