A very serious problem faced by most European – as well as Euroleague – teams, was touched upon by his statements Andrea Trinkeri.
On the occasion of his departure Tyrone Wallace from Zalgirisjust one month after the start of the season, the Lithuanian coach, stood the difficulties facing many teams in finding players in the transfer market, making due for a… now unbearable situation!
Andrea Trinkeri’s statements in detail:
“Shocked is not the right word. Surprised. I have to say he was very honest and straightforward and I appreciate that quite a bit. There is basketball, there is a job, but there are also human beings. He was very honest, he took responsibility for the choice and I will always be grateful. I have not experienced anything like it but the way he handled the difficult choice was close to perfection.
You don’t talk people into big decisions. You’re just asking them if they’re sticking with the decision, if they’re having second thoughts, and if you can do anything to help them make the right choice, you’re not going against someone’s wishes.
The transfer market is not difficult. She is insufferable. Every year it gets worse. Last year, Zalgiris and I were looking for a guard for 5 months and we didn’t manage to do it. And when Keenan Evans got injured, we paid dearly, dearly. With the NBA having more players under their control, I mean contract-wise, young and talented Americans aren’t coming. There are teams that have been looking for players since September 1st and have not signed any players.
It’s a mess because having a guard his size was something we really wanted this summer. So, that shot is over. I know the front office is doing their best to help our team find the player and when they do, they will tell me, I believe. Right now we are playing with this roster and I still believe there are players who can do more.”
