by

First win for Dinamo Zagreb in the League Phase of the Champions League. Champions Croatia with two second-half goals and, taking advantage of Schlager’s dismissal, beat Salzburg 2-0 in Austria for matchday three of Europe’s top-flight club competition to claim their first win, leaving the Austrian champions without a point and in last place in the group.

This was the Croatians’ first Champions League double since the 1998-1999 season.

Kulenovic in the 49th minute and Petkovic in the 83rd minute scored the winning goals.

The match

At the start of the match, Ademi began to threaten Salzburg’s goal without creating any significant phase in front of the two goals. The Austrians then missed chances to open the scoring until the first half hour. From there on, the Croatians took the “reins” of the match and started to miss opportunities with a fatal player Kulenovic and, thus, the half ended goalless.

Dinamo Zagreb started strongly in the second half and, after Ademi’s missed chance in the 49th minute, it became 0-1 in the 50th minute. Ristovski passed the ball to Kulenovick who through the area opened the scoring with a nice effort. Torrente missed a chance to make it 0-2 and then the Croatians began to fall back and the Austrians threatened twice in five minutes by the 65th minute, with the pace dropping due to the changes. However, in the 66th minute, Slager’s direct sending-off for his overturn outside the area on Susic turned the game upside down, with both teams missing chances to score.

Salzburg missed two chances to equalize until the 80th minute, but in the 83rd minute it was 0-2. An amazing combination of Dynamo players brought Petkovic to place in a wonderful way outside the area and “clean up” the match. Rog in the 93′ missed an opportunity for 0-3 and the match ended at 0-2.
