New great distinction for Tsokas, bronze at the U17 European Cup in Klagenfurt

by

With acquired speed and increased confidence from the bronze medal in Budapest at the beginning of the month, Vassilis Tsokas continues his excellent performances in the European Cup series. Last Saturday he started his effort in the pool stage, where he was undefeated with 6 wins, while he passed the scoreboard of 256 without a fight.

As soon as he started playing in the knockouts, he was “stormy”: On the board of 128, he defeated the Ukrainian Maksim Korchuk 15-6, on the board of 64 the Austrian Nikolas Sisso-Eske with 15-14, on the board of 32 Hungarian Donat Kis with 15-6 and in the board of 16 the Italian Filippo Brignoli with 15-9.

In the crucial match for the promotion to the podium, he also overcame the obstacle of the Ukrainian Arseny Karapis with 11-10 in the advantage and secured a medal for the second consecutive U17 European Cup event.

He may have been defeated 15-9 in the semi-final by the eventual winner of the event, the Italian Francesco Delfino, but it is important that Nikos Tsokas’ athlete will return from Austria with… a heavier suitcase for the second time in October. It should be noted that he was ranked 3rd among 240 athletes, while with the 60 points he secured with his performance, he is expected to rise to the top three of the European U17 ranking. He had also competed in Klagefurt last year and had won 23rd place.

In the same competition, Maya Koutsodendris (Lygas Pentelis) scored 1 win and 5 losses in the pool phase and was eliminated. She ranked 177th among 197 female athletes.
