OR Jessica Pegula had a dominating performance against Maria Sakkariin the round of 16 of the Adelaide tournament, and qualified with 2-0 sets (6-4, 6-1) in the next phase of the event. The American was very strong on her serve, in a particularly aggressive game, which the Greek tennis player could not handle.
Pegula exercised pressure on Sakkari’s serve from the beginning of the match, having many opportunities for break points in the first set, winning three straight games and making it 1-0 with 6-4.
In the second set, Pegula stepped up vertically her game, breaking Sakkari’s serve three times, who struggled to find answers to the various shots and pressure put on her by her American opponent, often falling behind on her first serves. By taking advantage of this weakness and winning opportunities of her own, Pegula was able to make it a comfortable 2-0 to 6-1.
In the quarterfinals, Jessica Pegula will face Ashlyn Kruger, who eliminated Paula Bandosa, partner of Stefanos Tsitsipas.
