Women’s national polo: Four rookies in the World Cup squad

A fairly renewed line-up will take part in Women’s National Polo in its preliminary phase World Cupwhich will be hosted in Alexandroupoli, from January 14 to 19.

The federal technician, Harry Pavlidishe has at his disposal only seven of the 13 players who competed this summer at the Olympic Games and gives the “baptism of fire” to four women who have never participated in an official event, namely Margarita Bitsakou, Alexia Tzourka, Efi Katsibri and Phoebe Angelides. The mission also includes Ioanna Stamatopoulou, Eleftheria Pleuritou, Fotini Tricha, Elena Elliniadis, Athena Giannopoulou, Stefania Santa, Irini Ninou, Maria Patra, Christina Siouti, Vaso Pleuritou and Maria Myriokephalitaki.

The Greek team will give friendly match against Australiatomorrow Saturday (11/1, 14:00), in Nea Smyrni, and on Sunday (12/1) he will travel to Alexandroupoli. The mission will also include Pavlidis’ assistant, Antonis Vlontakis, physiotherapist Natalia Skarpeti, video analyst Ekaterina Tankeeva and women’s water polo commissioner Grigoris Dedes, as mission leader.

The Greek team participates in Group A and will face Hungary (1/14), Spain (1/15) and the USA (5/16) in order, with a joint start time of 7 p.m. Group B includes the Netherlands, Israel, Italy and Australia. The top two from each group will play in a pool system (all against all) for places 1-4 and the rest for places 5-8. The top six ranked teams advance to the final stage, where they will be joined by Japan and China, who took the ticket from the second division.
