Cruzeiro Council accepts Ronaldo’s demands to complete SAF sale

The Deliberative Council of Cruzeiro approved on Monday night (4) the sale of the club’s SAF (Soccer Anonymous Society) to the group headed by former player Ronaldo. The vote took place in a hostile climate and legal disputes.

Since the announcement of the beginning of the agreement, on December 18 of last year, the ex-athlete’s team has analyzed the club’s financial situation. According to him, debts appeared that initially would not compete with the SAF, a scenario that made him threaten to undo the deal.

To keep the promise and sign the definitive contract, Ronaldo demanded changes in the business, such as linking Toca da Raposa I and Toca da Raposa II (basic and professional training centers, respectively) to the SAF. He also demanded the immediate approval of the club’s extrajudicial or judicial recovery request so that old debts could be renegotiated.

The former player’s argument for the requests was that it was not previously foreseen that around R$ 200 million in tax debts would fall on SAF. So he wanted more reassurance.

“Our proposal is to assume this debt, with this small guarantee, which are the two Burrows for the SAF, so that we guarantee that we would not have this risk of attachment, of losing the two Burrows, which are our places of work “, said the former player.

These were the main conditions for the businessman to carry out the agreement. And the most difficult ones for approval in the Council, since they depended on 90% of the body’s yes. After negotiation and legal disputes, there was a yes.

The meeting almost had to adjourn. Hours before the meeting, scheduled for 6:30 pm, Judge Bruno Lino, from the Minas Gerais Court of Justice (TJ-MG), granted an injunction requested by José Eustáquio Lucas Pereira, counselor at Cruzeiro, to cancel the vote.

The club’s legal department was called to try to overturn the action and reached the goal after more than four hours of the scheduled start time of the meeting.

Upon arrival at the polling place, advisers were approached by dozens of fans who demanded votes in favor of maintaining the deal with Ronaldo. “If the council doesn’t approve, the stick will break”, shouted the Cruzeiro residents.

As the meeting took place, bombs could be heard exploding outside.

According to members of the Board of Directors of the Deliberative Council of the club, the intention of the meeting was not to undo the contract, but to review the demands made by the businessman.

“Toca II, for example, has nothing to do with tax debt, only the [Toca] I is alienated. I think Toca II stays with him (with the SAF), but there needs to be alignment”, said Nagib Simões, a member of the Board.

Simões was referring to the club’s tax debt with the Attorney General’s Office of the National Treasury (PGFN). In the agreement, Toca da Raposa I was placed as collateral.
