THE Aristides Nikolaos Psarros master it bronze medal in -54 kg of the World Taekwondo Championshipsheld in Wuxi, China.
The 17-year-old athlete, who is a member of the pre-Olympic team and an athlete of AS Charilaou Alkimos, celebrated last year winning the gold medal at the Junior World Championships.
It is worth noting that the men’s world championship is the second most important event after the Olympic Games and the bronze medal of Psarros, will give the young champion a substantial rise in the world ranking (in addition, in the Olympic ranking he holds the 1st place).
Psarros, started his journey from the round of “64” and in the quarter-finals prevailed 2-1 against the Brazilian, Gonsalves and qualified for the semi-finals. Despite falling behind in the score (he lost the first round 8-3), he fought back to win the second round 9-3 and the third 8-2 to secure a medal. In the semi-finals, he gave his best against the Turk, Tsamoglou, but lost in the details the victory that would have led him to claim the gold medal. It is characteristic that the second period ended 6-6, with the Turk having the upper hand in points and taking the victory, as he prevailed 10-4 in the first round.
