Team from the 4th division of SP can steal from Ibis the worst status in the world

by

It sounded strange to the unsuspecting who followed the broadcast of the match between Atlético Mogi and União Mogi, for the fourth division of São Paulo, on August 29 of last year, the effect caused by the goal scored by Kaick, Atlético striker.

The small club from Mogi das Cruzes (66 km from the capital) had just tied the clash by 2 to 2, in the 21st minute of the second half, against the traditional rival of the city, founded in 1913.

Players on the bench tried to help their teammates with encouragement and instructions, no one else could sit down.

The reaction sketch, however, was cooled down just seven minutes later. The team ended up conceding the third goal and could no longer equalize the score.

“Things didn’t work out, something always happened. Victory would be a huge achievement [para o clube], would take a weight off your back. I confess that even the draw would go down in history, too”, said former coach Anderson Silva.

It was brief, but Atlético Mogi lived for the first time in a long time, even if for a few minutes, the dream of putting an end to an uncomfortable and heavy mark that it carries since June 17, 2017, exactly 1771 days ago, the date of its last victory. of its history: 1 to 0 over Real Cubatense, with a penalty goal.

Since then, there have been 47 games, with 45 defeats and two draws. One hundred and seventy-six goals conceded, only 20 scored. And, after last year’s campaign, the mark of 28 consecutive defeats.

The club debuts again in the last state division this Saturday (23), against Guarulhos, at 3 pm, away from home, dreaming of undoing the label of the worst team in São Paulo. The brand, soon, can be expanded as the biggest national fiasco.

If they don’t win this season, Atlético Mogi will overcome Íbis with the worst negative series in the history of Brazilian football. Known by the nickname “worst team in the world”, Pernambuco played 55 games, between 1980 and 1984, without winning a single victory. There were 48 defeats and seven draws in the period.

With ten games to play in the State, the São Paulo team would reach and surpass the mark with 57 matches in 2022.

“It doesn’t scare me at all. It’s a small team and I say that most small teams walk the same way. What’s wrong is the management of Brazilian football”, minimizes Haru Shimabuku, current coach.

At 67 years old, the former striker with passages through Marília-SP, União Bandeirante-PR and other teams accepted the challenge to help the president and personal friend, Roberto Costa.

“He [Roberto] has been my friend for years and invited me. I really like being in the field and I accepted for pleasure. The issue of negative numbers doesn’t scare me at all. I’ll try to help,” he explains.

The club’s situation is difficult. Former players heard by Sheet who worked in recent years report that the structure is precarious. They chose not to be identified, fearing that their careers would be jeopardized.

Materials are lacking and there is not even food provided by the club. Athletes only receive the money for train, subway or bus tickets and face hours of commuting from their homes to the training site.

“It lacks structure for the work, even simple material like cones for training. It’s complicated because this leads to lack of results and lack of results drives away sponsors”, says one of them.

The club has no sponsor. Last year the brand Representaciones Desportivas stamped on the uniform, which has the president himself as a partner.

Agent and negotiation intermediary, his relationship with Atlético started in 2009. That year, he participated in the biggest negotiation in the club’s history: the sale of striker Maicon Oliveira to Volyn, from Ukraine.

Until 2019, Atlético Mogi was managed by lawyer Joaquim Carlos Paixão Júnior. The lack of results, according to his account, brought serious financial losses even in his professional activities. He no longer watches club games.

“After 2019, I was never interested. I lost interest in working in football. It’s a vicious cycle and football doesn’t develop without financial resources. I suffered serious losses and I’m not a big investor, someone with a lot of money. my family at risk for this and I ended up backing down”, says Paixão.

Over the years, the team has suffered numerous defeats. In the last season alone, they lost 9-0 to Mauá, 5-0 to União Mogi and 6-0 to Suzano.

“There is no pressure for results at the club, but there is a very big weight to carry that seems to complicate everything. I told the team when I arrived: let’s draw a game first, then we dream of more”, explains Anderson Silva, former coach.

In addition to the lack of resources, the presence of Roberto’s children in the club’s day-to-day activities also causes controversy. Roberto Costa dos Santos is the vice president, while Roan, 22, is one of the team’s players.

The formation of the team is made by evaluations. With a few days left for the first game of the season, the club made an announcement on social media saying that it was looking for “goalkeepers and midfielders (offensive and creative)” to be evaluated and be part of the squad for the State competition. Among the answers, curious questions such as “what is the salary” and some jokes.

In February, the club reported that it was looking for “partners, agents and representatives” willing to invest, in bold letters. There was no demand.

THE Sheet tried to contact President Roberto Costa, but he did not respond to calls or take calls.

Surrounded by difficulties, Atlético Mogi is now trying to avoid a new fame beyond the ones it has already conquered. The ball will need to come back in this year. And in the opponent’s goal.
