A problem with a British Airways flight prevented Corinthians fans from boarding at Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo. The group would go to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the team plays on Tuesday night (17) against Boca Juniors, for Libertadores.
Fabiano Barbosa, 38 years old, purchasing coordinator, is one of the fans who would board the flight and who now fears not getting to Argentina in time to watch the match.
According to Barbosa, the group would board a plane at 7:15 am from London, stop in Guarulhos and then head to Buenos Aires. However, at 9:30 pm on Monday (16), passengers received an email informing them that the flight had been postponed and would depart from Guarulhos only at 9:30 pm on Tuesday night (17), time of departure for Corinthians in La Bombonera, in Argentine.
“Then we called the airline here at the airport to understand what had happened and they said there was a problem with the aircraft and that they could not take the flight from London. They asked us to come to the airport and they would re-accommodate everyone on flights from other companies and everything would be fine”, says Barbosa.
However, despite following the company’s guidelines and heading to the airport, the situation was not resolved, and approximately 200 fans, on account of the Corinthians themselves, spent the night trying to solve the problem. The group even chanted protest chants inside the airport.
This Tuesday morning (17), around 10 am, after much waiting and discussion, British Airways employees told the fans present that the company managed to negotiate with GOL Linhas Aéreas so that everyone could board a flight that will leave Guarulhos at 2 pm, arriving in Buenos Aires around 5:30 pm.
“They looked for us here and it seems that it is practically all right for us to board at 2:00 pm. They are taking our names and saying that they are working out the last details. Guarulhos.
On its website, British reports that a flight delay has occurred. “We are sorry that this flight has been postponed to the next day. If you are traveling on this flight and need further information, please speak to a British Airways representative at the airport.”
The report sought out the airline to clarify what had happened, but was only able to obtain information from the passenger service sector, which confirmed the problem with the flight and reinforced the statement published on the website.
The attendant also stated that the company does not have an office or consultancy in the country and that information would only be passed on by the company’s representatives at the Guarulhos airport.
THE SheetGol confirmed that it will transport the fans to Argentina on a flight that will leave at 2 pm and that there will be no costs for passengers.
