The upheaval on Netflix after the first loss of subscribers in a decade continues. On Tuesday, the company laid off more than 150 employees from its creative departments as a result of the major financial downturn in the first quarter of 2022.
“As we explained in the announcement of the financial results, the reduced growth forces us to reduce costs. So unfortunately today we are laying off about 150 employees, most of whom worked in the US.
These changes are mainly due to business needs and not to the personal performance of employees, which makes the situation even more difficult since none of us wanted to say goodbye to such great partners. “We are trying hard to support them in this difficult transition,” the company said in a statement.
These layoffs were not the first move made, as in the past there was a great restriction on projects being developed, mainly in the field of animation, while employees were removed from tudum which is the official site with news from Netflix productions.
The financial results of the first quarter of 2022, had 200,000 fewer subscribers, while the forecast for the next quarter says that the decline will continue and may reach 2-3 million.
The moves made by the company and are accelerated is a new subscription plan with a lower price that will include advertisements, the effort to limit the sharing of codes, while during the year the live-streaming will be tested for the first time.
