An American company planning to send humans into space with a giant balloon has announced its final design.
The latest entry in the space travel industry is Space Perspective. This allows customers to travel 20 miles for just $120,000 (£99,000). At least the drinks are included.
The company has been around for some time, but recently announced the final design for Neptune’s balloon spaceship. The sleek-looking capsule seats eight passengers for a six-hour journey.
There is no weightlessness because the balloon does not go up that much. This means you can relax without worrying about the martini floating out of the glass.
Twenty miles from Earth may be a bit shorter than the 50 and 62 miles offered by Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin, but it’s still enough to give you a spectacular view of our planet.
The capsule has a 5-foot-tall window and a comfortable seat, surrounded by shades of purple and illuminated by soft lighting.
There is also a Wi-Fi connection. So you can post your photos directly to social media without having to go back to Terra Farm.
“Our team has gone through hundreds of internal iterations to design and execute the pressurized spacecraft Neptune capsule,” explains Space Perspective.
The goal was to create a cozy interior with comfortable seating, mood lighting, and even plants and herbs like lavender, basil, and rosemary that can be used for eating and drinking.
“It creates a soothing environment for relaxation and is the opposite of the bright white practical interior (and most people’s thoughts of what a spaceship interior looks like) found in other spacecraft.
If you are paying for the trip, you do not need to be specially trained as an “astronaut” to participate.
The balloon rises at 12 mph, giving passengers ample time to experience the majesty of Earth and a bit of vertigo.
It also allows you to reach the stars in an environmentally friendly way, since each flight doesn’t burn large amounts of rocket fuel to reach the stars.
