The IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) Twitter profile was invaded by a cryptocurrency brokerage this Monday (1st), the day the Demographic Census begins to reach Brazilian homes.
At around 19:00, the account @ibgecomunica of the social network had his profile picture, biography and name changed. The information had been replaced by that of the company Exodus Crypto Wallet.
“We have released a new update! Now you can not only store your cryptocurrencies, but also buy NFT!”
In a note, the IBGE said that the managers of social networks have already alerted the administrators of Twitter and activated the IT department of the agency.
The Census, which is usually carried out every ten years, is considered the most detailed work on the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the Brazilian population.
The most recent edition took place in 2010. The new survey would be in 2020, but it was postponed with the restrictions caused by the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
