If you have an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus, there’s an important software update you need to install right away.
Apple has released a rare update for iOS 12 that targets the top hacking threats recently discovered in iOS 16 and macOS 12. This is the first update released for iOS12 since September 2021.
This threat could allow a malicious website to execute code on your iPhone when you open Safari or another browser.
If you haven’t seen an available update in the Settings app yet, Settings > General > Software update To update to iOS 12.5.6.
“Maliciously crafted web content processing can lead to arbitrary code execution,” Apple wrote in its patch notes, adding: “There have been reports that this issue is being actively exploited,” it added.
This update is also available for iPad Air 1st generation, iPad mini 2nd and 3rd generation, and iPod touch 6th generation.
This follows recent warnings from Apple about serious security risks to iPhones, iPads and iMacs that could give hackers access to your bank accounts, photos and emails.
However, the tech giant quickly released a fix with its latest iOS 15.6.1 software update. It has “important security updates and is recommended for all users.”
