Millions of nursing home residents, staff and people at home have been invited to receive fall Covid boosters starting Monday.

More than 4 million people will be able to book Booster Jabs as the nationwide reservation service opens up to those 75 and older and the most vulnerable.

Health teams will visit nursing homes and private homes across the country to vaccinate around 1.6 million people in the last stage of vaccine rollout, NHS England said.

Beginning Monday, additional admission will be offered to nursing home residents, staff and those with chronic health conditions.

By Wednesday, millions of elderly and vulnerable people will be invited to reserve their vaccines.

In the coming weeks, the program will expand to cover 26 million people in England, including those over 50.

A record 3,100 sites are expected to be part of the campaign, including general practitioners and community pharmacies.

A new booster injection was developed to immunize against both the parent strain of the virus and the Omicron variant.

The NHS doesn’t think supplies are a problem and is urging anyone with a jab to make an appointment and get a dose.

The outbreak comes as Covid infections continue to decline across most of the UK, with UK levels falling below 1 million for the first time since early June, figures show.

But health officials expect both covid and influenza to return in the coming weeks.

Steve Russell, NHS Director of Immunization and Screening, said: within a week.

“NHS staff are once again ready to deliver these vaccines quickly and are processing stocks at over 3,000 sites across England to ensure maximum protection for the coming winter.

“Autumn Booster will boost the immunity of those susceptible to COVID-19 heading into winter, allowing them to co-exist with the virus without restriction,” said Steve Barclay, Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“If you’re invited, come get a booster and a flu shot.”

The NHS is looking for volunteers to help with the upcoming winter outbreak.

Steward volunteers help with non-clinical tasks at the vaccination site, such as moving patients and identifying those who need additional assistance.

Appointments are flexible at various UK locations and can be booked using the GoodSAM mobile app. All costs are covered and no license is required.

St John Ambulance is also calling for an additional 4,000 volunteer vaccinators to come forward.
