The accounts Twitterwith over 1 million followers, have brought back the blue ticks from Elon Muskwithout having to pay a subscription, causing confusion and “headache” for celebrities.

Elon Musk removed blue ticks from accounts this week, leaving celebrities and other high-profile public figures such as Beyoncé, Harry Kane and Victoria Beckham with no indication that their accounts are genuine.

Before Musk took over the company in October after paying $44 billion, blue ticks were given to verify that the accounts were not fake.

Twitter first introduced the blue tick in 2009, when a former professional baseball player sued the company, accusing the social network of allowing fake accounts to be created. Since then, the blue tick has become a status symbol and proof of an account’s authenticity.

Recently, Elon Musk launched a paid subscription service where any account could sign up for “Twitter Blue” and get the check mark. So it seems that Elon took a step back and the blue ticks reappeared on accounts with more than 1 million followers overnight.

“Twitter Blue” is available to all Twitter users for about $8 a month. Many celebrities in the UK have expressed their surprise after waking up to find their blue ticks restored, with many quick to reassure fans that they haven’t paid for them.

There are fears that with the loss of the blue tick fake accounts impersonating famous people will have a “party” on Musk’s Twitter, who has said that soon only tweets from accounts with a blue tick will appear on every user’s homepage .
