More than 3,000,000 citizens use the intangible prescription

by

More than three million registrations in intangible prescribing, according to data from the Electronic Government of Social Security SA (IDIKA). Since March 2020, 3,001,144 citizens have registered their phone and e-mail on the ehealth.gov.gr platform, in order to receive their medical prescriptions, referrals and medical certificates via message. Respectively, recently the prescriptions and referrals that are issued intangible amount to about 40% of the total prescriptions and referrals that are issued daily.

Intangible prescribing was one of the first new services added to gov.gr. It is an extension of electronic prescribing, allowing the remote service of the insured. In this way, a very important and sensitive process was simplified for all involved (citizens, doctors, pharmacists) while ensuring safety, transparency and privacy at all stages.

The system operates and is supervised by IDIKA SA, a supervised body of the Ministry of Digital Government, in close cooperation with the Ministry of Health. The original function of intangible prescription was to prescribe medicine. Then, in August 2020, the possibility of issuing intangible referrals was added, and in September 2021, intangible medical certificates.

In addition, from August 2021 those who are registered in the intangible prescription have the opportunity to use the MyHealth app. Through the application, citizens gain fast, easy and secure access to their data on electronic and intangible prescribing from 2012 onwards.

Finally, the intangible prescription was used in the National Vaccination Campaign. In particular, during the period of prioritization of age groups, those who were registered on ehealth.gov.gr received an SMS with a pre-booking appointment, which they could accept or modify. Through this process, millions of appointments were proposed quickly and accurately, contributing to the smooth running of the vaccination program.

The Minister of State and Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis stated: “We are very pleased that, in less than two years, more than one in three adults are taking advantage of the possibility of intangible prescribing. The response of the citizens and the doctors reflects the usefulness of the service, which was the first of the many steps of our close cooperation with the Ministry of Health. At the same time, intangible prescribing is very important for an additional reason, as it reflects the philosophy with which we approach the digital transformation: we make creative use of the systems we have received, constantly producing new services, according to the needs of the citizens “.

The Minister of Health Thanos Plevris stated: “Intangible prescription has had and continues to play a decisive role in the general treatment of the pandemic, while at the same time it is a valuable tool that makes life easier for citizens, as evidenced by the fact that 3 million people have registered in practice. In addition, the data we collect from intangible prescriptions is extremely useful in our efforts to develop new Public Health policies, as well as to streamline pharmaceutical spending. We improve the daily lives of citizens in practice. We are protecting the vulnerable groups of the population “.

The CEO of IDIKA SA Niki Tsouma stated: “The implementation of the intangible prescription was a central axis of the plan of the current management of IDIKA which aimed to support with all its might the policy of the Ministry of Digital Governance for its digital transformation and change of citizen-state relations. The work of this intangible was made possible thanks to the dedication and professionalism of the employees of IDIKA “.
