A Russia-China intergovernmental agreement on cooperation to install a lunar station is ready, and may be signed soon, Russian Ambassador to China Andrei Denisov told a news conference on Tuesday, according to TASS.
“The agreement is practically ready and it seems that it can be signed very soon,” the Russian diplomat stressed. He claimed that all states had been invited to participate in the creation of an international lunar station.
“As far as I know, agreements for specific investigations are in the process of being signed today. “Such agreements have been signed with eleven countries and international organizations, including Russian research organizations,” he said. As the Russian envoy added, “a specific legal framework in this area is already available.”
The Russian diplomat clarified that this is a long-term cooperation program.
Chinese media reported earlier that the program envisages unmanned flights, after which a lunar station will be installed around 2035.
On the whole, Russian-Chinese cooperation in space is developing “well and fruitfully,” the ambassador stressed.
Russia and China are currently operating under a 2018-2022 space cooperation program. A new five-year program is being prepared to replace it, the ambassador clarified.
