Euro Airship, which is building the Solar Airship One, says it will have 80% less fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions than conventional aircraft
Solar Airship One is an airship we would only see in science fiction movies.
The specific airship, as reported by the daily mail, will be developed in France and is going to go around the world without stopping for refueling, even using environmentally friendly fuel and more specifically a hybrid system of photovoltaics and hydrogen.
Euro Airship, which is building the Solar Airship One, says it will have 80% less fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions than conventional aircraft.
Flying at an average altitude of seven km the airship will have a special reinforced envelope that provides stability against external pressures and conditions while at the same time regulating the internal temperature. The complex propulsion system consisting of 15 gas chambers will be managed by software that will allow the aircraft to perform rapid maneuvers in a variety of conditions.
The airship’s photovoltaic equipment will allow it to recharge its batteries during the day, while when darkness falls the hydrogen fuel cells will take action, thus theoretically at least allowing this craft to fly continuously.
Flights will begin in 2026
Euro Airship will begin construction of Solar Airship One in 2024, with construction to be completed in 2025 and flights to begin in 2026. The company sees many uses for Solar Airship One, which can also move without a crew. The boat could, according to the manufacturing company, carry out military missions, commercial (e.g. cargo transport) but also more specialized ones such as ecotourism.
According to the Daily Mail, the unusual aircraft will be almost 20,000 feet above the ground and will cross Mexico, India, the US and several other states during its two-year journey.
“In History, all great dreams were deemed impossible before they were fulfilled,” says the Euro Airship team.
“Behind every achievement, researchers have invented the future by going beyond the limits of our certainties. They have challenged the rules, challenged common sense to discover new solutions. Today, the adventure must continue with a wonderful journey to protect the environment and renewable energy,” said the Euro Airship team.
