The global smartphone market ended its ninth straight quarter of sales declines, with the decline, however, halting and many manufacturers already returning to growth.

According to Omdia’s preliminary data, smartphone sales reached 301.6 million units in the third quarter of 2023, a marginal decrease of 0.7% compared to a year earlier.

Compared to the previous quarter, however, sales were up 13.4% as, for the first time, half of the market’s top ten manufacturers showed growth, including Apple, Xiaomi, Transsion Holdings Group, Honor and Huawei .

On the contrary, Samsung, vivo and Realme saw a big drop, according to the company’s preliminary data.

The leading manufacturers

From the leading manufacturers on the market, the Samsung achieved sales of 58.8 million devices, recording an increase of 10.3% compared to the previous quarter, although this performance was not enough to reach the sales levels seen in 2022, with a decline of 8.2% compared with the 3rd quarter of last year.

As a result, Samsung’s market share fell by two percentage points, from 21% in Q3 2022 to 19% in Q3 this year.

THE Apple quickly rebounded from the decline seen in Q2 2023, growing 23.6% and 2.3% YoY to 53.4 million devices.

Therefore, Apple’s market share increased to 18% in Q3 2023 from 16% in the previous quarter.

Its market share Xiaomi rebounded after a prolonged period of declining sales. In Q3 2023, the company shipped 41.5 million devices globally, up 25% from the previous quarter and up 2.5% from the previous year.

The Oppo Group achieved sales of 26.6 million devices in Q3 2023, down 8.6% year-over-year.

On her part, Transsion Holding continued its explosive rise, increasing its sales by 7.3% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2023, reaching 26.3 million devices. It’s about 48.6% increase compared to the previous year, when it saw 17.7 million sales.

THE Vivo remains in sixth place, having suffered a 10.7% drop in sales, from 25.3 million in Q3 2022 to 22.6 million devices this year, with an 8% market share, while Honor recorded sales of 15.8 million devices, up 11.3% from Q3 2022.

THE Realmefinally, it shipped 10.6 million devices worldwide, up 5% on a quarterly basis, but down 22.1% compared to last year.
