The $23 billion price tag is nearly double the startup’s $12 billion valuation
Google parent Alphabet is in advanced talks to buy fast-growing cybersecurity startup Wiz for about $23 billion.
The acquisition of Wiz, which makes cybersecurity software for cloud computing, is a major bet by Google on cybersecurity.
Discussions between Google and Wiz began after the startup raised $1 billion from venture capitalists earlier this year. Terms of the potential deal have not been finalized and talks could fall apart, according to the source cited by CNN.
The deal would exceed its market Motorola by Google for $12.5 billion about a decade ago, the largest acquisition in the company’s history.
The $23 billion price tag is nearly double the startup’s $12 billion valuation.
In March 2022, Alphabet bought cybersecurity firm Mandiant for $5.4 billion as part of its efforts to help companies better deal with cyber threats and boost their cloud computing operations.
