Minister Marcos Pontes (Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation) confirmed this Tuesday (1st) that he will leave the ministry and appoint a replacement to assume the portfolio. “The list [com as sugestões de substitutos] is with the president [Jair Bolsonaro]”, he stated.

He will run for the Chamber of Deputies for the PL (the same party as President Bolsonaro) for São Paulo. The information on the minister’s departure had been published this Monday (31) on the Metrópoles website.

Pontes said that the names mentioned are from the ministry itself to ensure continuity in the work. He did not reveal what his nominations were.

Due to electoral legislation, ministers who will be candidates must leave their positions by April 1st.

Pontes took over the ministry at the beginning of the Jair Bolsonaro government, in January 2019. At the time, the portfolio was still called “Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications”, but in October 2020, it was spun off to the Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications. recreation of the Ministry of Communications.

Budget

Cautiously, Pontes celebrated the approved budget for 2022, but said it was still not enough. According to the newspaper O Globo, it will be R$ 6.9 billion.

“Now that we have resources, many researchers who left will return to the country,” said Pontes, citing a project for scientists to work in the Amazon, in partnership with foreigners, and the development of a maximum biosafety laboratory in Campinas.
