As the Bbcmore than half of Americans (54%) say they are informed by platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, a percentage that exceeds those updated on television (50%) or news websites and applications (48%).

The report points out that, although the rise of social networks and person -centered information is not exclusively the US, “the changes there seem to be faster and more intensive than in other countries”.

The well -known podcaster Joe Rogan It emerges as the most recognizable personality, with almost 22% of Americans declaring that it came into contact with news or commentary content from the week before the investigation.

The author of the study, Nick Newmancomments that the rise of the video on social networks and information based on personalities “is yet another serious challenge for traditional publishers”.

The research also records the tendency of some policies to prefer interviews with friendly internet hosts and not to traditional media journalists. According to the report, “populist politicians around the world are increasingly able to bypass journalism by choosing” personalities “and influencers who enjoy special access, but without asking difficult questions – they are often accused of spreading false narratives or worse.”

Despite their increasing influence, almost half of the survey participants (47%) believe that influencers and online personalities are a key source of misinformation – at rates respectively to those of politicians.

The Reuters Institute also notes that the use of the X platform for information “remains stable or increases in many markets”, with the highest increase being recorded in the US. Since Ilon Musk took control of the platform in 2022, “many more clockwise users, mainly young men, have turned to it, while the progressive audience has largely retired or uses it less.”

In the US, the percentage of users who identify themselves as right -wing triples after the acquisition by Musk, while in the United Kingdom it almost doubled.

On the contrary, competitive platforms such as threads, bluesky and Mastodon remain marginal, with a share of usage to be updated below 2%.

Other basic findings of the report:
Tiktok is the world’s largest growth social network, with 17% of respondents using it for news – an increase of four points from last year.

The use of artificial intelligence chatbots is increasing and is twice as much as people under 25 years of age compared to the general population.

However, the majority of respondents believe that artificial intelligence will reduce the transparency, accuracy and reliability of news.

All generations continue to appreciate the valid media with a tradition of credibility, even if they do not use them as often as before.

The Reuters Institute’s annual report is now in its 14th year and is based on a survey of nearly 100,000 citizens in 48 countries.
