Biden: Everyone should be worried about monkey pox

Monkey pox is something for which “Everyone should be worried” and the US are considering what treatments and vaccines are available, the president said on Sunday. Joe Biden according to Sky News.

Speaking to reporters at an air base in South Korea before leaving with Air Force One for Japan, Biden said U.S. health officials were considering possible treatments and vaccines. “This is something that everyone should be concerned about,” he said.

“We are working hard to figure out what to do, and what vaccine, if any, may be available for this,” he said.

The World Health Organization (WHO) expects them to be identified and other cases of smallpoxas it extends surveillance to countries where the disease is not endemic.

According with WHO, until yesterday, Saturday, they reported 92 confirmed and 28 suspected cases of smallpox of monkeys from 12 Member States where the virus is not endemic.

Smallpox, an infectious disease that usually has mild symptoms, is endemic to parts of western and central Africa. It is spread through close contact, which means that it can be limited relatively easily, by isolation and observance of hygiene rules.

The first suspicious case for possible infection by smallpox of monkeys was located in our country and is being examined as EODY informed yesterday.

THE ΕΟΔΥ received samples for confirmatory testing which were sent to the reference laboratory and the results will be available on Monday.

A doctor told Sky News that the UK was facing a “significant increase” in cases next week, with 20 confirmed infections so far.
