THE China asked today from him US President Joe Biden “Not to underestimate” its “strong determination” to “protect its sovereignty”, following his statements that will defend Taiwan militarily in case invasion of the Chinese army.
After the end of the civil war in China in 1949, the Taiwan is governed by a democratically elected government.
Beijing still aims to “reunite” the island with “the motherland”. He has not even ruled out the possibility of using violenceespecially in the event that the Taiwanese authorities formally declare the island independent.
Biden confirmed today from Tokyo that the US will defend Taiwan militarilyif Beijing invades the island.
“No one should underestimate the strong determination, strong will and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend their national sovereignty and territorial integrity.” replied the Wang Wenbin, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
“We strongly urge the United States (…) to refrain from sending false messages to the separatist forces in Taiwan,” he added.
For his part Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked the United States today for its support.
The ministry said it welcomes and thanks Biden and the US government for reaffirming their commitment to Taiwan, adding that the island government will continue to strengthen its defense and deepen its cooperation with countries such as the US and Japan in order to protect its security.
