Partygate: New photos from Downing Street party “burn” Boris Johnson

by

His photos Boris Johnson with a glass in hand at another party on Downing Street in 2020, amid strong anti-pandemic measures, bring back the carousel of accusations that he is lying shortly before the long-awaited report on partygate.

The new photos were published last night by ITV News and were taken at a party organized for the departure of the head of Communication Lee Kane on November 13, 2020, ie a few days after the announcement of the second lockdown in England.

They show the British prime minister raising his glass, talking to others around a table with many bottles of wine and food.

This party was the subject of a police investigation, as were other celebrations organized in the circles of power during the pandemic. The scandal was called partygate.

When asked in the House of Commons about the November party, Boris Johnson assured that no celebration had taken place on that date and that he was certain that no rules had been broken.

He has been fined by the police, but for attending a surprise party for his 56th birthday on Downing Street, and not for this celebration of the departure of the head of Communications. The publication of the photos restores the criticism.

The second in the Labor Party, Angela Reiner, told ITV that it was surprising that Boris Johnson was not fined for this celebration, which did not look like a rally.

The aggravating factor in this case is, according to Angela Reiner, that Boris Johnson “knew that he was breaking the rules (…) and yet he tried to escape. “He tried to lie to the British and he tried to lie to Parliament.”

The police investigation is over and has resulted in the imposition of 126 fines for events that are placed on eight different dates, from May 20, 2020 to April 16, 2021.

However, the publication of the report of the public servant Sue Gray is expected in the coming days and it is likely that he will provide data and photos for various celebrations, throwing water on the mill of criticism.

The parliamentary inquiry will be completed to determine whether Boris Johnson deliberately misled British MPs in the case, telling the House of Commons that “all the rules have been followed”.
