At her home in Marbella, southern Spain, the main wife of the Qatari royal family was found dead.
The French newspaper Le Parisien reports that Cassia Galanio, 45, was discovered on Sunday morning and the first tests indicate a possible drug overdose.
Galanio, a descendant of the United States and Poland, was the third wife of Abdel Azizbin Harifa Altani, 73, uncle of the Qatari chief.
The couple was involved in a decades-long detention battle over his three daughters, where he was accused of abusing one of the girls.
They met in Paris. There, Altani, a former Qatari oil and finance minister whose father ruled the Gulf countries for 23 years, moved in during an asylum coup in 1995, during which his half-brother assumed the throne.
According to French media, he lived a luxurious life in a 5,000-square-meter palace in the ultra-luxurious 8th arrondissement, near the Champs-Élysées.
The couple married in 2004 and soon had twins (now 17) and a third daughter (now 15) before divorcing in 2012.
Ms Galanio then moved to Marbella, followed by long-running discussions allegedly stemming from Mr Altani’s opposition to girls spending time with him.
She lost control of her children in 2018 while battling drinking problems and severe depression.
According to Le Parisien, one of his daughters complained in April this year, forcing her father to sleep in bed and accusing her of touching her chest and buttocks for nine to fifteen years.
Police have reportedly begun investigating the alleged sexual assault. Altani has always denied the accusations.
Galanio interviewed Women’s World TV at the end of April and said: It’s time for people to know that not everything is fascinating and perfect.
“I also had a hard time experiencing some things, but it was hard. It’s a shack for the kids just like it is for me.”
An Instagram account allegedly owned by one of his daughters posted:
The dismantling was to be carried out by the Spanish authorities on Tuesday.
