A 10-year-old girl who was shot by Uwald and who fled recalls the devastating moment when Robbie Primary School was closed and her best friend, one of 19 children, tried to calm her down.
“He was the only best friend I ever had,” Chloe Torres said in an interview with KENS5 about her best friend, Amelie Joe Garza.
Garza was one of the first fourth graders to be shot when a shooter stabbed himself last week. He was killed while calling 911 for help.
After moving to Lewisville, Texas for spring break from Louisiana, Torres said his friends were trying to calm him down when they told him he had pushed a shooter into the building from the blockade. ..
“They told us we would be trapped,” Torres said. “My friend said it was normal. Don’t be afraid. It’s okay.”
The attackers eventually entered the fourth grade of Irma Garcia and Eva Miles in an attempt to save a student who was killed by two teachers. Torres explained how Garcia was shot while trying to protect him and Amer.
‘[Ms Garcia] He ran over to us, sat down and started covering for his friends. She started to refuse. Because she said you would die. “He shot my friend on the phone and he shot my teachers, Garcia and Millerez,” Torres said.
After seeing the shooting of Torres’s teacher and his best friend, he got up to turn off Garza’s cell phone to ignore them.
“I didn’t want to hurt others,” he said.
The shooter then tried to shoot Torres. Torres says he just ran away and hit the debris.
After the gunman was killed by a border patrol agent, the first response was to remove Torres from the classroom where the father of the murdered friend was meeting.
Garza’s father, a doctor who came to the scene for help, noticed that Torres was covered in blood and asked if he needed help. Torres told her that the blood was not hers and was killed by her best friend.
She then asked who her boyfriend was and was lost when she found out about her daughter’s death, telling CNN in an emotional interview, “She was the most beautiful girl who ever did a bad thing.”
The tragic story of the Torres massacre occurs as the burial of 21 victims begins. Garza, who turned 10 on May 10, was remembered at a ceremony on Tuesday. The funeral is expected to continue until mid-June.
