The city of Kharkiv and several nearby villages were affected, the governor said via Telegram
At least three people have been killed and six others injured in Russian artillery shelling in the eastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv, according to Governor Olekh Shinehubov.
The city of Kharkiv and several nearby villages were affected, the official said via Telegram. He argued that “the enemy can not break the resistance of our defenders” and therefore “the occupying forces are engaged in terrorist acts, throwing against unarmed people.”
In the village of Bastanka, in the southern district of Mykolaiv, two people were killed and three others were injured in a Russian rocket attack, the local prosecutor’s office said.
In the city of Mykolaif, the capital of the homonymous region, explosions were heard, Ukrainian media reported.
At least 1,000 prisoners of war have been transferred to Russia
More than a thousand prisoners of war, Ukrainian soldiers and foreign “mercenaries”, who had fallen into the hands of Russian forces in the Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, have joined Russia to go on trial, Russian state news agency TASS reported on Tuesday night.
The foreign “mercenaries” are about a hundred, the agency clarified, according to which other prisoners of war are expected to be transferred from Mariupol to Russia soon.
At least 2,400 Ukrainian fighters surrendered to the Russian army in late May, after weeks of heavy fighting at the giant Azovstal steel plant in the port of Mariupol. The Ukrainian political leadership says it is concerned that prisoners of war may be tortured or even killed by the Russians.
Moscow claims that there are many neo-Nazis among the military and “mercenaries”, something that Kyiv and the West deny. The Ukrainian political leadership wants an exchange of Russian prisoners of war with the warriors who surrendered to Azovstal. However, some Russian parliamentarians have demanded that at least some of them be brought to justice.
The news could further undermine the peace talks between the two warring countries, which were already at a dead end.
