A pair of golden eagles has stopped developing a wind farm.

Fred Olsen Renewables wants to build eight turbines up to 180 meters high at 543 meters high on Mount Scudrow, just above the edge of the B709 road.

The company first announced its plans last year, saying it is also exploring the possibility of including hiking and mountain biking trails in the wind farm development near the Moorefoot Hills site, which is particularly interesting from a commercial standpoint. scientific.

But now it turns out that the proposal was delayed by two eagles found on the ground.

Efforts to increase golden eagle numbers in southern Scotland have been agreed in recent years.

Colin Williams, who works in the wind energy sector and is a committee member of Innerleithen and County Council, told the meeting that FOR had not yet submitted its plan application to the Scottish Border Council.

He details the email from project manager Julie Atkin:

“It was delayed because two eagles were detected on the ground.”

The Golden Eagle South group in Scotland aims to strengthen the “small, isolated and vulnerable population” of cult birds within the border, Dumfries and Galloway.
