A British woman raped on the island of Crete says she is “100%” sure her father will not be responsible.
She accused the police of “liberating” the abuser on a Greek island after her 62-year-old father was accidentally arrested and charged.
Yesterday, his father, unable to reveal his identity for legal reasons, pleaded not guilty in court in Heraklion, the capital of Crete.
Denying the accusations of rape, sexual assault and domestic violence, he told the judge: Nobody can do that. I’m not guilty.
He has been sentenced to prison and, according to Greek law, his trial is expected to take place within the next 18 months.
A 33-year-old daughter of a man who could not be identified for legal reasons was seen arriving at court with her and hugging in front of a judge.
She protested his arrest on social media, criticized police actions and said she would not leave Crete without him.
Police arrested the man on Saturday after saying his daughter had been raped two days ago for spending the night in Maria’s town.
He admitted he was drunk and said he couldn’t remember anything about the attacker.
According to police, the father made an obscene gesture to his daughter at the bar they both drank last week.
They accused him of punching him in the face, dragging him to a deserted beach and raping him.
However, the woman says her father was at the hotel at the time of the attack. She told MailOnline: I live with my father in the UK. I was on vacation with him in Greece. He is the best father in the world.
“Don’t do such annoying things under any circumstances. I told this to the Greek police, but they ignored me.
He said he was “100%” sure the couple’s DNA samples and CCTV evidence would reveal the father’s name.
According to police, surveillance footage shows the father of a woman dressed in white beating his daughter and sexually abusing her.
However, the victim assured that there was commotion and added: But they misunderstood that it was my attacker dressed in white.
“This is just one example of what they mistook in the investigation.”
In a police complaint, the woman said Thursday morning that a stranger stopped her and raped her on a narrow street near a bar where she was drinking with her father.
A coroner told the local Neakriti newspaper that the woman was “covered” in injuries that were consistent with stones and branches found on the beach.
They also said she had a rape-related injury and DNA samples were collected.
