When people think of artists, they think of the epic works of Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, or Pablo Picasso.
But one Cornish penguin that pushes all the usual boundaries is Squigg, whose “chaotic” paintings dominate the art world.
Squiggie lives at the Gwick Cornish Seal Sanctuary near Healthton in Cornwall. As a way to secure her future home, the little penguins created a stunning reflection of the penguins’ colorful footprints.
Being an artist is just one part of daily accomplishment with the Squiggly Animal Welfare team. This allows Squiggly to remain active and involved, encouraging and posting natural behavior.
Squiggly’s work will raise $11.3 million at auction as part of the altar’s upcoming fundraising drive for the four new altar pools and its new home.
However, the Humboldt penguins lived a miserable life.
He was born at the sanctuary four years ago, and his parents, Gilbert and Laura, still live there, but were unable to care for him.
This means that the squid was so small that it always had a special relationship with the altar team that raised it by hand.
Animal welfare specialist Paul Freer said:
Squidge painting is a voluntary activity and there is only one way to increase stimulation as part of a normal grooming routine, and the results are quite spectacular.
“If you’ve never seen penguin art before, it’s audibly beautiful and chaotic, perfectly reflecting Squiggly’s cheeky personality.”
Squidge is known for his cheeky and cheerful personality and always delights guests down the aisle.
Team members said they always knew Squigg had a creative genius, and now he really showed his true color.
Paul said:
“They say creativity takes courage. I love seeing Squiggly take on his new side.”
The A1 canvas (60cm x 84cm) has an official Squidge stamp for authenticity and is now available for bidding.
The money will be spent building modern pools at the sanctuary, ensuring the future of the charities and animal welfare in all that they do.
All painting sessions have passed welfare checks, have been fully approved by the reserve’s veterinary specialists and have been certified as a suitable, non-toxic and fully washable paint for pets and children.
