One of the first beavers found dead in London for 400 years.

The two Eurasian beavers (one male and one female) became the first type of beaver to return to the capital again in March.

The pair were expected to mate in late 2022 and produce beavers or cubs.

But on Friday it emerged that a man died of natural causes on a 40-hole course at Anfield.

A council spokesman said: “I am deeply saddened to announce that one of the two beavers at Forty Hall Farm has died.”

“The autopsy results confirm that the male beaver died of natural causes.

“Beaver Warehouse was founded and built by experts to obtain the necessary licenses to meet the requirements of Natural England to the highest standards.

“These experts are confident that the environment created is good.”

Once widespread in Europe and Asia, Eurasian owls were hunted for fur and meat until they were nearly extinct in the 16th century.

But Beaver returns to England. In the UK, there are small groups scattered throughout England, Scotland and Wales.

We are currently looking for a replacement male to accompany a female as part of a reintroduction project.

Pictures of its habitat and expert observations confirmed that it was still safe and healthy.

The speaker added: “Our intention is to find a suitable replacement beaver as soon as possible.

“Anfield Council are considering another Beaver release each season.

“We will also be given time to adjust the neighborhood to further improve the condition of the occupants.

“In the meantime, we will continue to monitor the remaining female beavers as closely as possible without harming her or her habitat.”
