Argentine police arrested this Friday (26) the first suspect of having taken part in a bomb attack on the headquarters of the newspaper Clarín, according to the media.
According to the report, this is a 44-year-old Uruguayan, identified as Martín Michell Gallarreta Albin, who was found after analyzing images from security cameras. More than 400 of them are part of the expertise of the case.
The attack took place last Monday (22), in Buenos Aires, when a group of nine hooded people arrived on foot, at 11:05 pm, and threw at least seven Molotov cocktails — a type of homemade bomb in which a flammable liquid is placed inside. of a glass bottle—against the building of one of the country’s main vehicles.
The artifacts damaged the building’s facade and sparked a fire at the entrance, but left no injuries. The fire department arrived minutes later, but did not need to intervene as the outbreaks extinguished on their own.
According to Clarín, the suspect, who will be interrogated in the next few hours, has anarchist publications on his social networks and is sympathetic to La Cámpora, a youth political group that supports Cristina Kirchner and President Alberto Fernández.
After the attack, earlier this week, Fernández posted on a social network: “Violence always disturbs democratic coexistence. We hope that the facts are clarified and the perpetrators identified.”
The attack was also repudiated by politicians and entities across the country.
Grupo Clarín, the country’s largest media conglomerate —in addition to editing the homonymous newspaper, the company also owns the sports car Olé and the TV channels Trece and Todo Noticias—, issued a statement condemning the attack, which it called a “violent expression of intolerance “, and asked for urgent clarification and punishment.
