A horrific crime with the murder of a mother who was fatally shot while she was walking in a pram with her three-month-old baby shocks the USA.
The incident happened early Wednesday night at the Manhattan Upper East Side in New York and according to the American authorities and the mayor of the city, the three-month-old baby was not injured.
Two senior officials and New York City Councilman Julie Menin, representing the neighborhood where Wednesday’s shooting took place, said the murdered woman was the mother of the child.
The gunman approached the 20-year-old woman and shot her once in the head “from a very close distance,” a police commissioner said.
He was dressed in black, wore a hood, and was last seen running east shortly afterwards.
The woman was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The motives have not been revealed and no arrests have been made so far.
“We will find the person guilty of this heinous crime,” Mayor Eric Adams told reporters.
“We will find him and bring him to justice,” he stressed, among other things.
