Russian forces bombed a market in Sloviansk, killing one woman and injuring at least three other people, according to local police.
A journalist of his Reuters who was at the scene saw yellow smoke billowing from an auto parts store and flames engulfing rows of market stalls as firefighters tried to extinguish the blaze.
It was not immediately known what type of ammunition was used in the attack on the city, which is located in the Donetsk region.
Police said it was unclear how many people were in the market at the time of the attack, but noted that the market was closing at the time, with some shops still open.
Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly called on civilians remaining in the city to leave the area, as the front line is now just a few kilometers after the cities were captured Severodonetsk and Lysihansk by the Russian army.
At least six people have been killed and 19 others injured since Sunday in shelling in Sloviansk, which sparked fires.
Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, a regional administrative center still under Ukrainian control, are the next targets for Russian forces, who are continuing their offensive to take control of the Donbass region in eastern Ukraine.
In 2014, Sloviansk was for several months under the control of pro-Russian separatists fighting alongside forces from Moscow during their conflict against Ukrainian forces.
