Ukraine has not used advanced US high-mobility artillery missile systems (HIMARS) to strike Russian targets outside Ukrainian territory, a US official assured on Friday, disputing Russian accusations.
“The Russian claim that HIMARS are being used to strike targets outside Ukrainian territory is false,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. He added that Ukraine is using these weapons “to fight the battle that its forces are facing and is using them effectively in that battle.”
The US began delivering this missile system to Ukraine last month after receiving assurances from Kyiv that it would not use it to strike targets inside Russian territory, an action that could escalate the war.
