After landing, flames and smoke swirled from the bottom of the Spirit Airlines plane, scaring passengers.
Video taken by a passenger on another plane shows Spirit Airlines Flight 383 sitting on the tarmac at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport swirling with flames and dark gray smoke.
Spirit Airlines said the brakes overheated during landing at 9:25 a.m. and a small fire broke out.
“Spirit Flight 383 from Tampa to Atlanta landed safely at Atlanta International Airport and experienced one of the brakes during landing,” an airline spokesperson said, according to NBC News.
“The aircraft was directed to the gate and the guests flew safely without injury. Thank you Atlanta first responders for receiving the aircraft immediately. The aircraft was temporarily out of service for maintenance. Excluded.
According to FOX 5, first responders quickly extinguished the fire and brought the plane to Gate D2.
Airport officials said all passengers were safe from the plane and no one was injured.
One passenger on the flight, Scotty Nerms, said takeoff and travel went smoothly and things didn’t go well until landing.
When I landed, I heard a strange noise on the left side of the plane. “No one knew what it was until it came to a complete stop in the middle of the runway,” Nerms told FOX5. “I started to panic when I saw the flames coming from the engine and from the people.
Another video taken from inside the plane shows passengers standing and sitting wondering what is going on. Flight attendants can hear passengers announcing that they do not need to evacuate and should remain seated.
This was not the first time a Spirit Airlines flight had been on fire.
In October, a plane taking off from Atlantic City International Airport in New Jersey caught fire when the “Big Bird” jumped into the engine. The pilot stopped the takeoff.
