Poland has pledged to increase its defense spending to 3% of its GDP and more than double the size of its army to prevent any potential attack following Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine.

Poland will buy 116 used Abrams tanks from the US, Poland’s defense minister said today, as Warsaw bolsters its armed forces following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Poland has pledged to increase its defense spending to 3% of its GDP and more than double the size of its army to prevent any potential attack following Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine.

“We have reached a contract with the US on the preferential purchase of 116 used Abrams tanks,” Mariusz Blazak told state broadcaster TVP Info, adding that the deal would “significantly boost” Poland’s defense capabilities.

The deal comes in addition to a contract to buy 250 Abrams tanks announced in April.

Blazak did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
