“If we can get a deal, that will probably be the best tool we have yet to curb Iran’s nuclear program. I’m not convinced we’ll get there,” said the head of Britain’s foreign intelligence services
The head of Britain’s foreign intelligence service, MI6, said today that he doubts Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei supports a return to the 2015 deal on Iran’s nuclear program, despite marathon negotiations on the issue.
“If we can get a deal, that will probably be the best instrument we have yet to limit Iran’s nuclear program. I’m not convinced we’ll get there,” Richard Moore said during the Security Forum that held in Aspen, Colorado.
“I don’t think Iran’s supreme leader wants a deal. The Iranians will not want the talks to end, so they may continue for some time,” he added.
Moore’s speech at this conference in the US State of Colorado was billed as the first time Moore had spoken publicly abroad.
“I think the deal is absolutely on the table. And the European powers and the administration here are very, very clear on that. And I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians on that matter would block it. But I don’t think the Iranians want her,” Moore insisted.
On July 14, 2015, Iran entered into an agreement — the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — with the European Union and six major powers, including the United States, that guaranteed the civilian nature of its nuclear program against a relaxation of sanctions against Tehran.
