The Minister of Foreign Affairs Liz Truss she is still more popular than the former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak among the members of the Conservative Party, according to the latest pollhaving even widened her lead.

The first poll by the YouGov company after the two politicians qualified in the final battle to succeed Boris Johnson, shows that 62% of the party’s base prefers Ms Truss, compared to 38% for Mr Sunak.

The 47-year-old politician has increased by four percentage points her gap with the 42-year-old Mr. Sunak in relation to the company’s previous poll concerning the possibility of a final showdown between them.

It is noted that the up to 200,000 members of the Conservative Party are the ones who will choose with their votes during the summer the next leader of the party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

The poll also questioned whether Tory members trust the two finalists to be honest.

For Liz Truss, 63% answered that they trust her and 18% that they do not trust her, while for Rishi Sunak the corresponding percentages were 48% against 40%.

The new poll has also led to a wider spread in the odds in favor of Liz Truss at the bookies.
