Poland: Buys tanks and fighters from South Korea

“We understand the challenges Poland is facing due to the war in Ukraine and Putin’s aggressive policy,” the country’s defense minister emphasizes

Poland will next week sign a contract to buy from South Korea of K2 tanks, K9 howitzers and three squadrons of FA-50 aircraftas the Pole announced today defense Minister Marius Blazak.

“Next week we are signing the agreements,” he said on his Twitter account.

According to the wPolityce website, the contract is about delivery 48 FA-50 fighter jets, of the first of the 180 K2 tanks (the so-called “Black Panthers”) which will be supplied by Warsaw in total as well as an unspecified number of howitzers.

The first howitzers and tanks will be delivered by the end of the year and the aircraft in 2023, according to the minister who gave no further details.

“We understand the challenges Poland is facing due to the war in Ukraine and Putin’s aggressive policy (…) Our goal is to strengthen the Polish army as much as possible,” he explained while speaking to reporters. “We support Ukraine because it is fighting for us, but we also need to strengthen our own defense capabilities,” he added.
