Researchers have found that people with monkeypox do not have typical symptoms, and their illness can resemble a typical sexually transmitted disease.
A study of newly diagnosed people found that “many” of those infected had only a genital lesion or had pain in their mouth or anus.
Typical symptoms of monkeypox include widespread pain and soreness.
However, a study from Queen Mary University of London said waiting to see the disease can be problematic, as even doctors may not detect the disease right away.
“In some people, anal and oral symptoms have led to people being hospitalized to manage pain and dysphagia.
“That’s why it’s so important that these new clinical symptoms are recognized and that healthcare professionals are educated on how to identify and manage the disease. A misdiagnosis delays detection and controls the spread of the virus. It can hamper their efforts.”
Currently, 2,050 cases of monkeypox have been identified across the UK, mainly in London.

People at risk, such as men who have sex with men, frontline medical staff at highest risk of exposure and those in close contact with confirmed cases, are currently eligible for the NHS vaccine.
Last weekend, the London clinic issued more than 1,000 vaccines.
A new study investigated 528 confirmed infectious diseases in 43 locations around the world between April 27 and June 24, 2022.
Currently, the disease affects men who have sex with men in an imbalance, with 98% of people in this group.
However, while gender is the most likely way for these patients to become infected with the virus, the researchers say “by close physical contact with large respiratory droplets and potentially clothing and others warned that it could be transmitted” to across the surface.”
They cautioned that it is important to correctly identify monkeypox due to a global shortage of vaccines and treatments.
“Awareness of the disease, contact tracing and advising people to isolate themselves will be an important element of a public health response,” they said.
Professor Chloe Orkin, who led the study, said:
“Current international case definitions have shown that they need to be expanded to include symptoms that are not currently included, such as oral ulcers, anal ulcers and solitary ulcers.
“It is important to be diagnosed because these specific symptoms are severe and can lead to hospitalization.” By broadening the case definition, doctors can more easily identify infections and reach humans. Infection can be prevented.
Dr. John Thornhill, the first author of the study to treat genital health problems, said: Genital area. And 15 percent had anal and/or rectal pain.
These various presentations emphasize that monkey infections can be easily overlooked or confused with common sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis and herpes. Therefore, we propose to expand the current case definition.
“Also, the monkeypox virus was found in most of the sperm samples tested in people with monkeypox. But this may be a coincidence. Is it at a level sufficient to promote sexually transmitted diseases? I don’t know.” I know. More work is needed to better understand this.”
