The boy was left dead in a hot car after his father dropped him off at day care and then forgot to stop and go to work.

A 14-month-old baby was found dead in a parking lot at the Saffron aerospace company in Boldes, southwestern France.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that a young child died as a result of suffocation and dehydration,” prosecutor Cecily Gensak said yesterday.

Record temperatures swept the south of France this week, but the mercury at the time of the boy’s death hovered around 22C.

The boy’s mother first issued a warning late Wednesday after noticing her son was not attending daycare.

Emergency care workers in the field tried to revive the boy around 5 pm, but it was too late.

“No one heard the slightest noise,” prosecutor Gensak said.

The parents, both without criminal records, were reportedly taken to Po Hospital after a “shock”.

The nursery, which cares for 80 children and employs 26, was closed for two days after the incident.

Psychological support units were also set up there to help people understand what happened.

The autopsy will identify the exact cause of death.
