The abolition of the obligation to isolate people infected with coronavirus comes into force in Austria from today.
Quarantine is henceforth replaced by the obligation to use an FFP-2 type protective mask.
From today, anyone who is positive for coronavirus is no longer obliged to stay in quarantine as long as he does not feel sick, while he should wear an FFP-2 type protective mask.
When outdoors and able to maintain a distance of at least two meters from other people, wearing a mask is optional.
Attending work despite a positive test is only allowed in occupations where distancing and a mask can be used, while infected people can visit outdoor restaurants or open pools, but removing the mask to eat or drink is expressly prohibited.
In contrast, an infected person is prohibited from entering hospitals, nursing homes and daycare centers – unless someone is working there.
According to Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens), the decision to relax the regulations was made under the weight of the psychological and social consequences of the pandemic.
“Anxiety and depression have increased worldwide. But we are well prepared for a new phase of dealing with the pandemic, which cannot end only with tests, only with vaccines and only with isolation,” said Mr. Rauch and clarified that the obligation to report positive cases remains in force test, in order to control the evolution of the pandemic.
