First Victory for Abortion Rights in Kansas- Supreme Court Overruled

The voters in Kansasa conservative midwestern state, filed yesterday Tuesday in favor of constitutional provision for abortionin the first major case on the issue since the Supreme Court overturned its ruling that upheld the right at the federal level.

The electors of the state rejected the proposal to revise the state Constitution which would replace the existing text in the fundamental law and pave the way either for stricter restrictions on abortions or for the prohibition of these procedures.

62% of voters rejected the proposal, while 38% supported it, with 78% of the intended votes counted.

Congress should listen to the will of the American people and restore welfare” that the Supreme Court overturned in June, reversing its decision in Roe v. Wade (1973) that enshrined the right, the Democratic president added.

Yesterday’s process it was the first statewide referendum after the decision of the Supreme Court, where the conservatives are in the majority.
